Call for submissions of a Visual Badge Taxonomy
The e-Assessment Association (eAA) and the International Council on Badges and Credentials e.V. (ICoBC) hereby issue a call for submissions for a visual taxonomy for badges. The purpose of this taxonomy is to provide a standardized way to communicate the meaning and value of badges to stakeholders. With the growing popularity of badges, it has become increasingly difficult for stakeholders to understand the meaning and value of each badge. A visual taxonomy will provide a clear and concise way to communicate this information, making it easier for stakeholders to understand the value of each badge.
The 1EdTech organization has counted 521.000 available Open Badges in 2022. With this high quantity of different badges, it can be difficult for stakeholders to understand the meaning and value of each badge. To address this issue, the International Council on Badges and Credentials e.V. (ICoBC) is calling for submissions from designers who are up for the task of creating a visual taxonomy that is engaging and easy to understand. The submission should include visual badge templates as well as a clear explanation of the taxonomy. The goal of this visual taxonomy is to provide a standardized way to communicate the meaning and value of badges to stakeholders.
The visual taxonomy should be able to immediately identify key metadata of badges such as badge type (certification, participation, membership, etc.) as well as assessment classifications and issuing organization. This will make it easier for stakeholders to understand the value of each badge. Submissions should be openly licensed under Creative Commons to allow for widespread use and adoption. After the submission period which ends on 8th of March 2024 EOB CET, the eAA and ICoBC will review the submissions by end of March 2024 and recommend the winning submission to its members and stakeholders. There is no compensation of renumeration for any submission.
If you are interested in submitting a visual taxonomy for badges, please send an email with any further questions or directly submit your proposal to info@icobc.net.
